Pogonip Group, LLC ("Pogonip Group," "we," "us," or "our") provides MagTraverse, a magnetic-geophysics field acquisition, mapping, and interpretation application for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This Privacy Policy explains what information MagTraverse processes, why it is processed, where it is stored, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.
This policy applies to the MagTraverse application and its app-specific support interactions. The general Pogonip Group website may be covered by a separate website privacy notice.
01Who controls the information
Pogonip Group, LLC is the developer of MagTraverse and the controller of personal information that it receives directly, such as support communications. Most survey information is controlled by you and is stored locally on your device or in your private Apple iCloud database. Pogonip Group does not operate a separate MagTraverse project-data server in the current version.
02Information MagTraverse processes
MagTraverse may process the following categories when you choose to use the associated features.
Survey and scientific data
- Raw three-axis magnetometer readings and derived total-field values.
- Timestamps, device attitude, orientation matrices, heading, tilt, sensor height, sampling rate, calibration values, and acquisition-quality metrics.
- Traverse and tie-line paths, project names, project notes, acquisition settings, processing history, maps, gridded and contoured products, exports, and inversion inputs and results.
- Saved presets and preferences used to configure mapping, processing, and inversion.
Location and spatial data
- Precise geographic location, latitude, longitude, altitude, course, heading, reported horizontal and vertical accuracy, and timestamps when Location permission is granted.
- Derived coordinate-reference information, map registration, local-to-geographic transforms, and approximate place names used to name and georeference projects.
- ARKit device poses, detected planes, local spatial anchors, LiDAR terrain samples, and reconstructed environment meshes on supported devices.
Precise geolocation can be considered sensitive personal information under some laws. MagTraverse uses it only for the app functionality described in this policy and not to infer personal characteristics, advertise, track you across apps, or sell information.
Camera and motion inputs
- Camera images are processed by Apple ARKit to track device movement and register the local survey grid.
- Accelerometer, gyroscope, and motion-fusion data are used to determine device attitude, tilt, and survey positioning.
- Camera frames are not saved as project photos or videos by MagTraverse and are not uploaded to Pogonip Group.
Purchases and entitlement information
- MagTraverse receives verified App Store product and entitlement information from Apple StoreKit so it can determine whether MagTraverse Professional is active.
- Apple processes billing credentials and payment transactions. Pogonip Group does not receive or store your complete payment-card details through MagTraverse.
- Apple may provide developers with transaction, sales, tax, and subscription reporting as described by Apple. MagTraverse does not use subscription information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Support information
If you contact Pogonip Group, we may receive your name, email address, message, diagnostic details you choose to provide, and any project export or screenshot you intentionally attach. Do not send confidential survey information unless it is necessary for support and you are authorized to share it.
Information MagTraverse does not request
MagTraverse does not require a Pogonip Group account. The app does not request your contacts, health data, audio, browsing history, advertising identifier, or third-party account credentials. It does not contain third-party advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
03How information is used
MagTraverse processes information to:
- Record, calibrate, position, quality-check, process, visualize, and interpret magnetic-geophysics surveys.
- Register AR survey positions to GNSS coordinates and create georeferenced scientific and GIS exports.
- Reconstruct and display local terrain where supported.
- Save projects, synchronize them across your Apple devices when iCloud is enabled, and propagate user-requested edits or deletions.
- Generate project names based on approximate place and time when you allow location access.
- Run user-configured mapping, filtering, interpolation, leveling, and on-device inversion workflows.
- Verify Professional subscription access, process restore requests, and enforce the free one-active-project allowance.
- Diagnose problems and respond when you ask for support.
- Protect the app, users, Pogonip Group, and others from fraud, abuse, security threats, or unlawful activity.
- Meet legal, accounting, tax, and regulatory obligations that apply to Pogonip Group.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing is based on one or more of the following: performing the app functionality you request; your permission or consent for device sensors and location; Pogonip Group's legitimate interests in operating, securing, and supporting the app; and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw a device permission at any time in Apple Settings, but related features may stop working.
04Local storage and private iCloud sync
Projects are stored locally in the app's sandbox on your device. When you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud sync is available, MagTraverse stores project records in your private Apple CloudKit database so they can synchronize among your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple operates iCloud and CloudKit under Apple's terms and privacy policies.
Pogonip Group does not maintain a separate server containing MagTraverse survey projects and does not routinely receive or inspect the content of your private CloudKit records. Your Apple account, device, iCloud settings, storage availability, and Apple's service operation affect whether sync is available.
05Apple platform services
MagTraverse relies on Apple platform services, which may process information under Apple's privacy policies and terms:
- iCloud and CloudKit for optional private project synchronization.
- StoreKit and the App Store for purchases, subscription status, transaction verification, and restore purchases.
- MapKit and Apple map services for street and satellite basemaps and map interaction.
- Core Location for GNSS positions, accuracy, heading, and approximate place naming when you grant permission.
- ARKit, Core Motion, and device sensors for local positioning, environment reconstruction, and acquisition quality.
- Apple system share sheets and document pickers when you choose to export, share, or import data.
For information about Apple's handling of data, review Apple's privacy policy and the privacy information for the relevant Apple service.
06Sharing and disclosure
MagTraverse does not automatically publish a survey or share it with other MagTraverse users. Information may be disclosed only in the following circumstances:
- At your direction. When you export, save, import, or share a project using Apple system tools, the recipient or destination you select receives that information.
- To Apple platform services. As needed to provide iCloud, CloudKit, MapKit, App Store, StoreKit, and related Apple functionality.
- For support. When you intentionally send information to Pogonip Group or authorize access necessary to investigate a problem.
- For legal and safety reasons. When disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a valid governmental request; enforce applicable terms; detect or prevent fraud or security issues; or protect the rights, property, or safety of users, Pogonip Group, or others.
- In a business transaction. If Pogonip Group is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information held directly by Pogonip Group may be transferred subject to applicable law and appropriate notice.
Pogonip Group does not sell MagTraverse personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising.
07Retention and deletion
Local projects remain on your device until you delete them, remove the app and its data, or erase the device. Projects synchronized through CloudKit remain in your private iCloud database until deleted through MagTraverse or removed through your Apple account and iCloud controls. MagTraverse writes a deletion record so a project deletion can propagate to other devices using the same iCloud account.
You can delete a project by swiping it in the Saved Surveys list and selecting Delete. Deleting a project removes it from the active project library and initiates deletion from the app's private CloudKit records. Copies you previously exported or shared are controlled by their destination and are not deleted by MagTraverse.
Support communications received directly by Pogonip Group are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain security and business records, resolve disputes, and satisfy legal obligations. App Store transaction and financial records are retained by Apple and, where provided to Pogonip Group, as required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
08Your permissions and choices
You control whether to grant Camera, Motion, and Location access. Permissions can be changed in Apple Settings. Consequences of disabling permissions include:
- Without Camera access, live AR positioning and camera-backed acquisition cannot operate.
- Without Motion access, orientation correction and acquisition guidance may be unavailable or reduced.
- Without Location access, the app can still use a local AR coordinate system, but geographic registration, GNSS accuracy records, approximate place naming, and some map/export functions may be unavailable.
- Without iCloud, projects remain local to the device and do not synchronize through CloudKit.
The labeled practice survey can be inspected without granting live field-acquisition permissions.
You can manage or cancel an auto-renewable subscription in your Apple account's subscription settings. MagTraverse also provides Restore Purchases. If a Professional subscription ends, existing projects remain readable; creating or importing additional projects above the free allowance requires resubscribing or deleting an active project.
09Security
MagTraverse uses Apple platform security controls, application sandboxing, code signing, StoreKit transaction verification, and private CloudKit storage. Data transmitted to Apple services is protected using Apple's service security. Exported files are protected by the security of the destination you choose.
No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your devices, Apple account, backups, exported files, and the people or systems with which you share project data.
10International processing
Pogonip Group is based in the United States. If you contact Pogonip Group, your communication may be processed in the United States. Apple may process iCloud, map, and App Store information in the locations described in Apple's terms and privacy policies. Where required, transfers are handled under appropriate legal mechanisms provided by the relevant service provider or applicable law.
11Privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal information held directly by Pogonip Group; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; or to appeal a response. You may also have the right to complain to a privacy or data-protection authority.
Much of the information MagTraverse uses is controlled directly through the app, your device, and your private iCloud account. Use the app's delete control, Apple Settings, iCloud controls, and App Store subscription settings for those records. To make a request concerning information held directly by Pogonip Group, email mitchell@pogonipgroup.com with the subject MagTraverse Privacy Request. We may need to verify your identity and authority before completing a request.
